Muustrøparken Sculpture Park

A sculpture and folk park is located right next to Nils Aas Kunstverksted in the idyllic area of Straumen, Inderøy. The park features eleven sculptures by the sculptor Nils Aas (1933 – 2004). Eight of the sculptures were donated by the artist himself, while the rest were given by his family or established by the friends of Muustrøparken.

Muustrøparken was established as Inderøy’s Millennium site in the year 2000. The park’s motto is “The Meeting Between Old and New Times.” It houses old landmarks like the Muus Bridge from 1816 and Ringstu, one of the oldest houses in Straumen. Muustrøparken is designed for activities and cultural events and includes an amphitheater with seating for 500 people, a stage, a playground for children, a skotthyll court, a mill house with a micro power plant, and diverse plant life.

Inderøy’s coat of arms, with four golden flounders on a red background, was designed by Nils Aas. The golden flounder was a delicacy from Børgin in the old days. The sculpture Flyndre (Flounder) by Nils Aas in Muustrøparken was a collaborative project between Nils Aas and Vang Mekaniske Verksted in Inderøy. In 2006, the Flyndre sculpture was equipped with sound, composed by Øyvind Brandtsegg.

Visitors from near and far are impressed by the overall experience and the idyllic, peaceful atmosphere in the park. Nils Aas Kunstverksted is only a few hundred meters away and offers guided tours for groups.
