Inderøy Municipality - Growth, Development, Culture, Innovation
Inderøy Municipality is located roughly in the center of Trøndelag and comprises the former municipalities of Inderøy and Mosvik, connected by the impressive Skarnsund Bridge, once the world’s longest cable-stayed bridge. If you take a trip along The Golden Route in Inderøy, you'll encounter a range of local businesses showcasing, selling, and letting you taste their creations. Several farm shops offer both their own products and those from neighboring farms, made from local ingredients—both directly sourced and produced.
Diverse nature
With the beautiful cultural landscape of the Inderøy peninsula and the green, forest-clad hills of the Mosvik peninsula in Fosen, there's a rich natural diversity awaiting visitors to Inderøy and Innherred. The town of Straumen is considered the center of Inderøy, while Mosvik center holds the same status on the Fosen side of the bridge. Straumen, the official municipal center, is named after Norway's second strongest tidal current, surpassed only by the Saltstraumen near Bodø. The unique light of Inderøy has over the years attracted many visual artists, photographers, and writers, hoping to capture its magic on canvas or recreate it with words.
Inderøy: The Cultural and Artistic Municipality
Inderøy is a municipality with a vibrant cultural scene. The popular educational institutions, Inderøy Upper Secondary School and Sund Folk High School, focus particularly on music, dance, and drama, and Inderøy also hosts several festivals in these cultural genres. Among the most popular events are Straumen Open, the Kortreist Dance Festival, the folk music festival Gullkåinn, and the jazz festival SoddJazz. The annual Boat Meet in Kjerknesvågen also attracts visitors from across Trøndelag.
Many will also recognize the name Nils Aas, who grew up in Inderøy. Today, Nils Aas is celebrated through the art workshop in Straumen, named after him, where several of his famous sculptures and drawings are on display.
Creativity in many forms
Farm life, cultivation, and refinement are expressions of a creative spirit that has shaped Inderøy both before and after Nils Aas. While historically it was largely about self-sufficiency with food, today Inderøy is much about creating experiences in everything from art and craft to local food for sale.
